Galatians 3:3 – Are ye so foolish? having begun in the Spirit, are ye now made perfect by the flesh?

Awhile back, we introduced the topic of resisting the Holy Ghost . Go back to what the Immaculate Conception of Jesus Christ: “But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the LORD appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost.” ( Matthew 1:20). Now the religious traditions of many Christians state that Mary and her other children were also immaculately conceived and hence born free of original sin. I find such things to be curious, as A) such is not recorded in any canonized Christian or Jewish text and B) one would have to consider what it does to the original sin doctrine, where only Jesus Christ was capable of paying the price for Adam’s sin because He was the only person to come into the world as Adam did, which was without sin. If Mary and the siblings of Jesus Christ were also immaculately conceived then A) why? What spiritual purpose did their immaculate conception serve? And were other people throughout history also immaculately conceived? Why not? Even if one accepts that Mary had to be free of original sin in order to produce a child that was free of original sin in Jesus Christ, then why would the siblings of Jesus Christ have to have been? If there was no reason for Christ’s siblings to have been born free of original sin and they were free of original sin “just because”, then why have not there been other virgin births “just because”? And incidentally, if it took a woman free of original sin to bring Jesus, a man free of original sin, into the world, then how is it that Mary’s mother was not born immaculately? And Mary’s grandmother? And Mary’s great – grandmother? And so on. And B) could not Mary, any of Jesus’s siblings, or any of the other untold numbers of immaculately conceived people throughout history have also paid the debt for Adam’s sin? And C) had any of those other immaculately conceived people sinned, would that have not negated the death of Christ on the cross? The truth is that the tradition of Mary’s remaining a virgin is specifically contradicted by Scripture: “And knew her not till she had brought forth her firstborn son: and he called his name JESUS” ( Matthew 1:25). This verse clearly means that the marriage was consummated after Christ’s birth. Otherwise, the verse would not even be in the Bible: it would have been misleading, contradictory, and utterly ridiculous to put that verse in there if their marriage had never been consummated AT ALL. Further, according to Jewish law, an unconsummated marriage is no marriage at all. Had Joseph and Mary not consummated their marriage, they would have never been married, period.

And again, consider the purpose. Even if Mary remaining a virgin is important to some religious doctrine or tradition, what of Joseph? What spiritual purpose would have been fulfilled by his never being able to have sexual relations with his wife? Joseph would not have even been able to put Mary away and marry another. But people only speak of “the Virgin Mary”; no one ever talks about “the Virgin Joseph”, because A) Joseph’s remaining a virgin serves no spiritual purpose whatsoever and was not in Joseph’s interests in any way and B) having to remain in that condition WHILE MARRIED would have been quite a lot to ask of Joseph, especially considering that he did not ask for or knowingly enter into a role that required him not to be able to have sex for his wife for reasons that did not serve God, him, or no one else ANY purpose whatsoever. Because of that obvious fact, Mary alone is the object of veneration but Joseph, the male born of original sin who accepted a role of married virginity (which should count for SOMETHING shouldn’t it?) gets totally ignored. In reality, the notion that Jesus’ brothers were born without original sin quickly falls apart too. Why? Because his siblings did not believe that Jesus Christ was the Son of God EVEN AFTER HE HAD TOLD HIM ( John 7:1-10). Lest we forget, rejecting Christ is not only a sin, but a major one, and had the brethren of Christ been born without original sin and raised with Jesus Christ by a mother who had no original sin, they would have either believed or have been unredeemable. How so? Well was Adam’s sin redeemed? If so, how? The people born of Adam, of original sin, were redeemed by Christ. But those who were not cursed of original sin and yet sinned, what broke their curse? Yet we know that sin of Jesus’ brethren, their unbelief, was redeemed when Christ’s resurrection, for Christ’s brethren were present at Pentecost ( Acts 1:14) and James the brother of Jesus was a leader in the early church ( I Corinthians 15:7, Galatians 2:9).

So, you have this instance where an untold number of Christians profess a tradition that is not only specifically contradicted in the Bible, but a tradition that actually renders much of Christianity moot. Again, what was it that introduced sin into mankind? The sin of a man who was born without sin. What freed mankind of that sin? The willing blood sacrifice of another man who was born without sin. Had there been other men who were born without sin, they would have been just as capable of dying for the sins of mankind as Jesus, and also just as capable of plunging humanity into sin as Adam. A lot of people believe that Christ being the Son of God is why He alone was able to die for man’s sin. UNTRUE! Jesus Christ was not merely the Son of God, but also God Himself, part of the Trinity. He had no part in creating Adam’s sin, for God cannot sin or even look upon sin. Trinity made the Creation perfect, Trinity had no role or responsibility in the corruption of creation, and therefore had no obligation to correct it. You do realize that having the exclusive ability to correct something implies an obligation, and an obligation implies a role or responsibility. But make no mistake, Trinity had no role, responsibility, or obligation in Adam’s mistake, and therefore Trinity had no exclusive ability to fix it. Further, if it took the Son of God to fix the mistake, then it would follow that only the Son of God could have created the problem to begin with. But Adam was not the Son of God. The Son of God was not created but has always existed as God and with God ( John 1:1). More to the point, had Adam been the Son of God rather than a creation of God (like Satan), the Adam would not have been able to sin. Make no mistake, being the Son of God implies equality with God and being the same as God. The Jews realized such, and that was why they were going to stone Jesus for heresy and blasphemy ( John 10:30-33). So, Christ’s ability to pay for Adam’s debt lied not in His being God’s Son, it lied solely in His coming to earth free of original sin. The role that His being the Son of God played was to A) ensure that Christ would not sin before He went to the cross and B) ensure that He would actually go to the cross! The sacrifice sinning before going to the cross would have made it unacceptable and the whole exercise pointless, and the sacrifice never going to the cross even more so. Either would have been a burden impossible for anyone else, and that is why neither Mary or any of Mary’s female ancestors or any of Christ’s brethren (how many siblings did Christ have? What were all their names? We do not even know!) or any of the other mystery people were given that burden by being immaculately conceived. Notice that God takes people out of this world without sin (meaning death), like Enoch, Elijah, and Christ, and will do so on a large scale during the rapture, but only Jesus and Adam came into the world without sin (death), and even then because of Adam’s sin both Adam and Jesus had to leave this world by dying (even if it was only temporary in the case of Christ)! The notion of there have been other immaculate conceptions than Christ is Scripturally contradicted and opposite to any context of sound Christian or Jewish doctrine, yet it is held to because of religious tradition. And that is how so many Christians resist the Holy Spirit.

But it is not the only religious tradition. Many others resist the Holy Spirit through their tradition with predestination, a doctrine that both denies man’s free will and the true nature of God’s grace, not to mention virtually everything that Christ Himself said in the Gospel of John. Others still resist the Holy Spirit with legalistic practices such as denying vigorous praise and worship and speaking in tongues, which utterly rejects Acts, I Corinthians, and the Psalms. Others claim that there is no faith healing and spiritual warfare, which denies all four gospels plus Acts. And many resist the Holy Spirit by claiming salvation by works or salvation by rituals, both of which reject not only most of the New Testament but many of the spiritual truths of the Old. And many resist the Holy Spirit by denying the Trinity and the true nature of it. Many resist the Holy Spirit by rejecting God’s True Nature. Many resist the Holy Spirit by discarding the Old Testament, many others by discarding Revelation, Daniel, Ezekiel, and other eschatological books and doctrines. Many resist the Holy Spirit by refusing to ordain women ministers (contradicting the example of Deborah and many other women through whom The Word spake in the Bible, not to mention the mighty works of so many women). Many resist the Holy Spirit by ignoring the spiritual potential of children (contradicting Matthew 19:14). Many Christian bodies refused for centuries to evangelize (violating the Great Commission and the Acts of Paul) thanks to the predestination doctrine (“when it pleases God to convert the heathen He will do it without help from either you or I”). And many Christians believe that Christ’s sacrifice allows them to continue in sin despite all the times that Paul said “God forbid” (and Christ Himself saying that He came not to destroy the law but to fulfill it). As a matter of fact, it can be said that Christians do more to resist the Holy Ghost than unbelievers and sinners, for virtually every denomination, body, group, or strand of Christendom has chosen to omit, contradict, or simply fail to practice important Biblical concepts.

The question is: why does this persist and proliferate? It is not as if these people lack the ability to read and understand the Bible, especially things that are so clearly simply stated as John 3:16 and Romans 10:9-10 concerning how salvation is conferred, or believing that Mary remained a virgin when Matthew 1:25 explicitly says that she did not. And the amazing part is that it is not as if some of these things serve any purpose. I can see why a person who does not want to put in the hard work of overcoming the flesh will claim that the death of Christ allows him to continue in fornication. But what does claiming that Mary was also immaculately conceived gain you? It is just another thing to believe; indeed something that provides no theological value whatsoever. Believing it is just an exercise in faith, yet people choose to do it. Even more amazing: why do people withhold power and blessing by choosing not to believe something? Do not people WANT prosperity? Do they not WANT to be healed? Do they not WANT the joy and power that comes from worship, tongues, and prophecy? Do they not WANT to see others saved? Do they not WANT the comfort, power, and insight that comes from understanding prophecy and eschatology? As a matter of fact, one of the best ways to confirm your own faith and build up the faith of others and plus to win new converts is to talk about how all of the prophecies and eschatological predictions have come true, but people who deny or do not involve themselves in them have to do without it.

The answer is simple: where God, His Word, obedience, submission, and true faith are of the spirit and not of this world, religion and tradition are of men and hence are of the flesh. The corrupt flesh and the perfect spirit never the twain shall meet. They will always conflict. Two cannot walk together unless they be agreed, and you cannot serve two masters. You will have to love one and hate the other. A person will be double – minded and stable for a time, but eventually there will be a time when that person has to choose. Those who choose the flesh, the way of the world with its traditions will on a regular basis read or hear Bible verses that contradict and destroy their religion and tradition and completely ignore them. Instead of destroying the dead flesh that will pass away and acknowledging the life of the Scriptures, they deny the truth of the Scriptures, and therefore the Scriptures become dead to them, and they are apart from it. Can such a person be saved? Only God knows, but I know that such a person can never experience the full power of God, because such a person will never know the True Nature of God because that person resists the very Holy Spirit of Truth by which God reveals Himself. There is the saying “Knowledge is power.” Actually, the saying is incomplete: it should say “Knowledge of GOD is power.” Those who deny the truth of any jot or tittle of the World deny themselves just that much power. And if you deny a basic, fundamental foundational thing such as grace, salvation, or original sin, well then that is just a lot of power that you just throw away whenever you make a conscious decision to choose what you were taught by man over that the Bible plainly says. Keep in mind: I am not talking about something that requires a revelation that only comes from the Holy Spirit after much fasting, prayer, hearing, and study. I am not even talking about something that requires educated scholarly research. I am talking about plainly stated Scriptures that anyone with basic reading comprehension can – and should – plainly understand!

The truth is that we cannot even blame Satan or his demons for things like this. When a person who professes Christ and the truth of God’s Word reads a verse and believes the opposite, that is all on him. Even if that person was raised in the church and taught such things by his parents and preachers, and even if such a person spent his entire life in a culture dominated by that particular religion which preached the same doctrine, that still does not nullify your ability to use your own mind. That still does not exempt you of the responsibility to decide that the contents of your Bible are more trustworthy and reliable than the words of man. Such people have a choice, and choose the words of man. In doing so, they are saying that man is greater than God! Well I disagree with those people. I say that God is greater than man and all else, and not only is that the substance of my faith, but I have reams of evidence to buttress me, and meanwhile there is a total lack of evidence otherwise! So please Christians, quit resisting the Holy Spirit, and get on God’s side today!

Father God in the name of Christ Jesus, please help touch the hearts of your children that are resisting the Holy Spirit with unsound doctrine. Please Lord cause the truth to be spoken to them, and may the Holy Spirit convict their hearts so that they would reject the words of man and accept the Word of God! In the Name of Jesus Christ, Amen!

The demons that work in this area are false teaching, false doctrine, and worldliness. Please read the Basic Spiritual Warfare guide to learn more about how to go against these demons to help set captives free and win battles in the name of your God through the power, authority, and victory given to you by his Son Jesus Christ and by his blood shed for you!
